Before We Get Started…

When I first browsed Lovehoney to read about the Bondage Boutique Leather and Studs Dildo Gag, I was surprised to see a warning for possible exposure to harmful chemicals like nickel. I also saw that one of the key features was nickel-free studs. This was a bit confusing and I didn’t really know what to believe in terms of how safe this gag actually was. I used the live chat on the site to talk to a Lovehoney employee who could confirm that it was in fact nickel-free! It’s simply a statutory warning that appears when a product may contain one of the materials on the Proposition 65-list. I’m not sure why the warning appeared on the page, but it’s likely because of the material of the dildo rather than the type of metal used. Either way, no nickel here! Although, I’ll get back to the dildo material later…

Taking it For a Spin!

My first time trying it on was not a big success. I tried cleaning it as thoroughly as I could and I immediately noticed how quickly it collected a bunch of dust and lint before I even had a chance to put it in my mouth. Although, when the time came, I also noticed how much it smelled and tasted like plastic. Because of this, I had a hard time getting into the groove of things. I actually found myself gagging–not in the good way–from the chemical-y taste. It took a while before I felt comfortable enough to secure the buckle around my head. Not off to a great start…

Ring-a-Bling-Bling

Once succesfully secured (and tolerated in my throat), the panel side of the gag itself looks really cool. I do like the studded leather look and appreciate soft and pliable the straps are. I’m used to having to ‘break in’ the straps in faux leather collars or gags since they’re a lot more stiff at first. While the straps are pliable the panel itself definitely isn’t. This does make the gag look a bit bulky from the outside since it doesn’t align with the shape of your face once its kept open by the dildo. Other than that, I appreciate the overall look.

Design

Apart from the super realistic detailing on this dildo itself, I actually do like the design of the Bondage Boutique Leather and Studs Dildo Gag. The studs really add that kinky look to it and the panel doesn't look as boring as other plain panels tend to (I'm looking at you, Tantus Beginner Ball Gag)! However, the fact that the panel doesn't completely align with the shape of your face as your jaw is kept open, does make it look a bit crooked and bulky. While I'm not sure how I would prevent this with a gag made of leather, I'm not a fan of how easily saliva or water can get into the gap between the leather panel and the rubber dildo on the inside of the gag. This just makes it even less appealing to me in terms of cleanliness, as gunk could build up in there over time.

Ease of Use

The Bondage Boutique Leather and Studs Dildo Gag is incredibly easy to use. I simply washed off the dildo at first, slipped it into my mouth and secured it behind my head. The buckle is super easy to use and the leather straps aren't as stiff as other gag straps usually are in the beginning.

Quality

Apart from the genuine leather, I was a bit disappointed by the quality of the Bondage Boutique Leather and Studs Dildo Gag. I always avoid using porous materials like rubber in my mouth or vagina because it harbors bacteria and dirt over time and is impossible to fully clean and sterilize. The plastic-like smell and taste of the rubber dildo does wear off a bit but it hasn't fully disappeared. For something that's supposed to go in my mouth, I'm not impressed with the quality.

Price

The Bondage Boutique Leather and Studs Dildo Gag is quite affordable for a dildo gag made of genuine leather. The quality of some of the other materials, however, are not 100% body safe or comfortable to use. So, even though it's on the affordable side as far as leather gags go, in my opinion it's still overpriced for what you're actually getting.

Performance

In practice, the Bondage Boutique Leather and Studs Dildo Gag was quite the mouthful! The dildo itself was long enough to provoke my gag reflex at times (which admittedly did take some getting used to). You can breathe a little bit through your mouth when wearing it, you're still able to experiment with some light breath play by, for example, plugging the nose for a few seconds. In terms of sound, the gag muffles your sounds to a moderate degree.

Packaging

There's very little to say about the packaging for the Bondage Boutique Leather and Studs Dildo Gag. It arrived in clear plastic bag without much information or instruction. As a bare minimum, I would have loved to see a cardboard box with some images or instructions of care.

Materials and care

The Bondage Boutique Leather and Studs Dildo Gag is made of real leather, nickel-free metal, and rubber. The panel and straps are not waterproof and should be wiped down with a damp cloth for cleaning. For long-term maintenance, you can also use saddle soap to condition the leather parts. The rubber can easily be cleaned under running water with a mild soap. Just be sure not the fully submerge the leather while doing this. I do think it's a bit tricky to clean thoroughly since the dildo itself isn't removable. It doesn't come with a storage bag so be sure to store it somewhere safe, away from sun exposure, dust, and lint.
