Personal Experience

First Impressions

When I first received the Bondage Boutique Vaginal Speculum, I was a tad underwhelmed. It just came in a plastic bag without any sort information about how to use it or how to clean it. The speculum itself was super lightweight and the plastic already had some small cracks in it. These cracks didn’t seem to affect the surface of the speculum so it didn’t actually seem broken. It just seemed like a poor quality product. I wasn’t super excited about using it at this point and I honestly thought it felt more like a single-use item rather than a reusable speculum. Since Lovehoney doesn’t specify the type of hard plastic it’s made of, I was a bit concerned about whether or not it was 100% body-safe. Still, I wanted to give this at least one fair try so I took the plunge!

Practice Makes Perfect?

Using the Bondage Boutique Vaginal Speculum by myself proved to be a bit of a challenge. I had a difficult time comfortably reaching down to hold the speculum open and tighten the plastic screw at the same time. Even after a lot of attempts in different positions and from different angles, I was never successful. On another occasion, I asked for some assistance from my partner. It was a lot easier from him to operate the speculum with full access and view of what was going on. Since the plastic felt a bit brittle, he was hesitant to expand it fully in fear of it shattering inside of me. While we did get it to work, it easily slid out of me as soon as he wasn’t applying steady pressure or I moved around too much. It took some practice but we finally did get to enjoy the full result. Although, in conclusion, I would personally choose to invest in a higher quality stainless steel speculum if I wanted to further explore this kind of thing.

Design

The Bondage Boutique Vaginal Speculum really does look the part in terms of fulfilling a medical fetish fantasy. It's definitely not as intimidating as a steel speculum, but it still gives off that clinical vibe. I don't know if this is an actual design flaw or not but I did find that it didn't stay in place very well. The red and white screw-on mechanism really doesn't look that appealing to me personally. I would have preferred another color for this part of the speculum.

Ease of Use

Compared to other speculums, the Bondage Boutique Vaginal Speculum seems very simply to use. You simply use the screw to slowly expand the shaft. However, when you're using it it isn't actually always a breeze. I found it hard to operate when using it on myself, and my partner did find it tricky to expand inside of me. Especially when considering the seemingly brittle nature of the plastic, full expansion becomes tricky in the moment. I also doesn't stay in place very well. All in all, I don't think it's super easy to use but I do understand that it might be easier to use compared to other speculums.

Quality

I am disappointed about the quality of the Bondage Boutique Vaginal Speculum. I don't know if the small cracks in the material appeared during transportation or if they were there from the beginning. Either way, it wasn't a good impression of the overall quality. Having tried it a few times in spite of this, I still don't think it's a good quality item. Yes, it gets the job done but considering the underwhelming "packaging", the cracks and imperfections, and the lack of information about the material I'm not impressed with the quality.

Price

The Bondage Boutique Vaginal Speculum is definitely a cheaper alternative to a steel speculum. However, I wouldn't say it's the cheapest option out there. Because I didn't have the best experience I, obviously, don't think it's worth the price. Although, if you're on a tight budget or simply want to try one out first to see if it's for you, this will get the job done.

Performance

Once we had passed the learning curve and finally got the speculum to work for us, it did do what it was supposed to. The clear plastic allows you to see a lot more than you would with a steel speculum. However, the Bondage Boutique Vaginal Speculum still didn't live up to my expectations because the plastic seemed so weak.

Packaging

The packaging for the Bondage Boutique Vaginal Speculum was literally just a plastic bag. For a plastic speculum this fragile, I would have expected it to come in some sort of protective packaging. There was also no information about the product, the materials, or how to care for it.

Materials and care

Since Lovehoney doesn't specify what kind of plastic the Bondage Boutique Vaginal Speculum is made of, it's difficult to know exactly how safe it is to use internally, or how to clean it properly. Regardless, I would always wash sex toys in warm water with a mild, unscented soap. This seems to work fine but I would really prefer to know exactly what kind of material I'm using.
