Initial Impressions and Setup

Let me preface this by saying we are complete noobs when it comes to BDSM, so we discussed a variety of play options before setting everything up was crucial. My partner was definitely more hesitant with this style of play just due to their lack of knowledge and societal thinking behind BDSM. BDSM doesn’t necessarily mean pain. It doesn’t have to include whips, chains, ball gags, spreaders, etc. BDSM is a wildly varying and ever changing play format.  This will be our experience as a “vanilla” couple with the Lovehoney Bind Date Bonage Kit.

What’s In the Kit

The kit is very well put together if not a little odd. The silk restraints, blindfold, feather tickler and mattress straps all make sense. Even the inclusion of the bullet vibrator works. The odd balls here are the Kama Sutra playing cards and “instructional Dice”. They definitely seem like the winners of the “One (or two) of These Things is Not Like the Other” game. That being said, for a beginner BDSM kit they are all useful in one way or another. Once unpacked, all the items felt premium.  The silk was nice and….silky? The nylon straps on the under-mattress restraint system were nice and study.  They didn’t budge even when in the middle of the play session but were easy to loosen or tighten at a moments notice. The hardest part was just installing the straps under the mattress. It should definitely be a two person job as it requires lifting the mattress to place the straps. Once in place, they can stay there for as long as needed. Once you clip the silk restraints on the metal rings on the mattress straps, you’re good to go for your play session. All of this setup implies you are using the “4 poster” setup with one attachment point at each corner. The kit is versatile and flexible enough that you can move the points around or even not use them at all and just clip the restraints together to have improvised hand and leg cuffs.

A Whole New World…..Kind of.

To warm up, we pulled the dice and playing cards out just to get some ideas. The dice are a fun little distraction and the cards are interesting. I had no idea some of those were eve considered positions. It was definitely a good way to get the juices flowing, so to speak.Our first play session started with a brief discussion of what we expected and then exchanging safe words. I believe She chose Banana and I chose Cucumber? No idea why. Anyway, I was in the Dominant role to begin with which meant she was the submissive. I had her get into position and then restrained her hands and feet with the silk restraints and mattress straps.  The silk is very easy to deal with and make soft knots so you don’t cut off any circulation. From there it was all about the senses. With the blindfold on your other senses are heightened. I started with the feather tickler as it was the “newest” device for use to use. The ability to softly touch, tickle and caress with the feather was great and helped to increase the excitement. From there I went for the bullet vibrator. This is your standard 7 speed vibrator but its impressively powerful and incredibly useful at amping things up. That in combination with the feather tickler and it was almost too much for her. After that, I went through a variety of toys I brought out to mix things up, a clitoral sucker, a larger vibrator.  It was definitely an experiment but one we both enjoyed.

Switching Things Up

We reversed the roles for the next session. Seeing as we’re new to this style of play we weren’t sure which role we both preferred. The same basic progression was take with the feather tickler and bullet vibrator. I will say that just having the blindfold on is a gamechanger. The increase in the other senses is crazy, especially in this type of situation. I loved being in the sub role. My wife was definitely hesitant to be the Dom but was really getting into it in the end. The lack of control I felt while being restrained was oddly freeing and frustrating. Not using my hands to be able to caress and touch was odd but it made my other senses, like taste and smell, even more heightened. When we ended the session we were both surprised. Surprised how much we like it but also almost overwhelmed. It’s a very different situation to have the type of control or lack of control here. It’s something we’re excited to explore but are also going to take it slow.  Enjoy the Ride, as they say.
