Purple Reins Sex Sling Review

Personal Experience

Prior to using the Purple Reins Sex Sling, I’d had a little bit of swing experience under my belt, thanks to the Sportsheets Door Jam sling. However, this one is on a whole other level. The Purple Reins Sling is designed so that you can lie down in it comfortably while your partner stands. I’ve actually been interested in that position, but with a wrong-height bed and a very rickety table, I haven’t really had the chance to explore it until now.

Design

Look, I'm just not a big purple fan. I can get on board with a lavender or lilac, but this shade of purple does nothing for me. Unfortunately, this sling doesn't come in any other colors, so I was stuck with it. At least it doesn't scream "sex swing" like a black leather one might, but I'm not sure I would keep it hung up with others around, regardless, just to avoid any awkward questions. However, thinking about design in terms of shape and style, I think Purple Reins have done a great job. The seat is large and comfortable, and the straps and sturdy and super adjustable, which I appreciate. However, I really wish the top straps were also adjustable, so it could fit nicely in a stand.

Ease of Use

Of course, any sex swing is never going to be a toy with instant gratification. You do have to spend a bit of time adjusting it to fit you and your needs. However, since there's no assembly required, it's comparably easy to get started with. It's also very easy to use, since the large seat means you don't have to balance or perch awkwardly in it.

Quality

I have to be honest and say that the Purple Reins Sex Sling is not a very high-quality product. It's sturdy, but you can tell that there wasn't a huge amount of care taken in the its construction. The nylon is rough and scratchy, some of the seams are unfinished and the straps slip around on the D-rings constantly. The seat is barely padded, and there's no padding on the leg loops. There's also no headrest, which is a common accessory with many other sex slings. Surprisingly, though, I didn't have any concerns that the swing would break or slip while I was in it.

Price

At $170, this swing is not cheap. It's certainly not the most expensive of its kind out there, but for a lower-quality sling seemingly aimed at beginners, I think it's a bit steep. For that price, I would expect better construction, nicer materials, and a couple more extras, like a headrest or head pillow. That being said, I do think that it will serve you well if you choose to go for it. It's sturdy and super adjustable, which is something that can't be said for many cheaper swings. It also comes with a storage bag, which is a helpful touch.

Performance

Lovehoney make a lot of promises on the product page of this swing. Is it "super-comfy" and "ultra-padded"? Not exactly — the seat has a thin layer of padding, but that's it, and the swing is nice to lie in but a bit scratchy. They also say "it looks so good we think you should leave it up all the time", which is a bold claim, but is definitely up to personal tastes! For my partner and I, it was fun to experiment with and easier to use than previous sex swing experiences but not something we will be revisiting often, in part because it's just not in our nature!

Packaging

The Purple Reins Sling comes in a plain, black drawstring storage bag, but has no other packaging. It's extremely discreet — I think it looks just like a piece of camping equipment. Inside the bag, you'll find the sling and a piece of paper with a couple of safety points on it, but nothing else. There are no instructions for how to set it up or how to adjust the many straps, which could definitely be problematic for some.

Materials and care

This sex swing is made entirely of nylon, which makes it cheap but not the most comfortable on the skin. Since the metal fastenings can't be removed, I don't recommend machine-washing it. Instead, I would go for a spot-cleaning method with a damp cloth and soap if needed.
